Xerox Printer Problems and Fixes

Xerox machines are office equipment, usually shared and usually managed, and the problems reported with them reflect that. A Xerox that will not print for one person while printing for others is a queue or a permission issue on that computer, not a fault on the machine, and looking at the printer itself wastes the first half hour.

The range spans very different products under one name. A small desktop Xerox behaves much like any other office laser. A larger WorkCentre or VersaLink is a networked system with accounting, scanning destinations and stored address books, where a change made months ago by someone else is a common cause of something stopping today.

Where a Xerox is on a service contract, and most are, the codes on the panel are meant to be reported rather than worked around. Clearing paper from the paths the machine shows you is expected and safe; going further generally is not, and on a contract it can complicate the cover.
