If your machine prints but refuses to scan, the whole unit hasn't failed. Printing and scanning use entirely separate drivers, distinct communication paths, and different internal hardware.
Don't assume a working print connection means the scan path is fine. Scanning requires two-way communication, which is much easier to interrupt. Your printer can pull a print job off the local network even while firewall rules or a Windows network set to Public block the return scan traffic. Modern operating systems also frequently install generic print drivers that leave out scanning functionality completely.
The issue could also be your software setup or the optical hardware itself. Scanning relies on TWAIN protocols or the Windows Image Acquisition service to talk to the machine, and pushing a scan-to-computer button over Wi-Fi requires the manufacturer's background software to be running on your PC. If you use physical cables, USB hubs or long extension cables disrupt the data bandwidth scanning needs. If the fault is inside the printer, a failed scanner lamp or optical sensor stops the scanner bed from initializing.
