Android No Printers Found: Causes and Fixes

When your Android phone says no printers are found, your search request is going out over the Wi-Fi network and getting no reply. Your phone relies on the Mopria Print Service or a brand specific plugin to handle this. If that communication fails, the phone cannot see the printer.

The printer is rarely broken. More often, it is sitting in sleep mode and ignoring network broadcast requests. Network rules cause the rest of these failures. Guest networks, isolated VLANs, and router isolation settings block the discovery protocols your phone needs. Active VPN apps also tunnel traffic away from your local network and block detection entirely.

Nothing is permanently damaged. The discovery path between your devices is simply blocked or asleep.

   Wake the Printer

   Press any physical button on the printer control panel to wake it from sleep mode and re-establish network communication.

   Check the Wi-Fi settings on your Android phone and ensure it is connected to the exact same home network name that the printer uses.

   Toggle Phone Wi-Fi

   Turn off Wi-Fi on your Android device for ten seconds, then turn it back on to force the phone to resend local network discovery packets.

   Disable Active VPNs

   Turn off any virtual private network applications on your phone, as VPNs tunnel traffic away from the local subnet and block printer discovery.

   Disconnecting from a work VPN may restrict access to secure company resources.

   Enable Mopria Print Service

   Go to your Android settings, search for Printing or Print, select the Mopria Print Service, and make sure it is turned on.

   Open the Google Play Store and search for your printer brand official print plugin, such as HP Print Service or Canon Print Service, and install it.

   Open Android Settings, go to Apps, find Print Spooler in the system apps list, and clear its storage cache to reset stuck discovery loops.
