What this means
Your printer cannot establish or maintain a wireless connection with your router. A slow blinking Wi-Fi light on your Canon printer means it is searching for a network. The hardware works, but it cannot bridge the gap to your home network.
You might assume the Wi-Fi card failed, but that is rarely true. The issue is a communication block. You likely entered an incorrect WPA key, tried connecting to an incompatible 5GHz network during setup, or hit a temporary DHCP assignment failure. Power cycle both the printer and your router to fix a DHCP drop.
Sometimes the block hides in your router settings. Client isolation settings prevent your computer from seeing the printer even when both connect. Reset the network settings on the printer to clear stored SSID and password data. Use the WPS button method on the printer or run the Canon setup utilities on your computer to finish the setup.
Common causes
- Incorrect Wi-Fi password entered during setup
- Printer connected to a 5GHz network instead of a 2.4GHz network
- Router blocking printer communication via isolation mode
- Poor router proximity or signal interference
- Outdated printer firmware
- Temporary glitch in the printer network card
What to check first
- 1Ensure your router is powered on and other devices connect fine
- 2Check that the printer is within range of the wireless router
Step-by-step fix
- 1
Power Cycle Equipment
Turn off the printer and your router. Wait thirty seconds. Turn the router back on first, wait for internet access, then turn on the printer.
- 2
Use WPS Connection
Press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer until the lamp flashes. Press the WPS button on your router within two minutes to pair them.
- 3
Reset Network Settings
Access the printer control panel. Navigate to device settings, select LAN settings, and choose reset LAN to clear old configuration data.
- 4
Run Setup Software
Download the official Canon setup utility on your computer. Follow the on-screen prompts to reconnect the printer to your wireless network.
- 5
Verify Frequency Band
Check that your router has a 2.4GHz network active, as many Canon models do not support 5GHz wireless bands.
When to contact a professional
Call your internet provider if you cannot disable client isolation on your router yourself. If the printer wireless module is completely unresponsive, contact Canon support.
